Maple Lawn Senior Care Campus Administrator, Arlan Swanson, and Infection Control Nurse Mary Lubben, were recently notified that facility has been awarded a Blue Ribbon and Certificate of Achievement from Minnesota Health Commissioner Edward Ehlinger. The award is for achieving high influenza vaccination rates among the facility's employees during the 2012-2013 flu season.

Maple Lawn Senior Care Campus is one of 400 nursing homes in the state of Minnesota. Only 24 of those care facilities were awarded Blue Ribbon Awards.

“We work hard to prevent influenza and other infections from impacting our residents,” Lubben stated. “Our work to get all staff vaccinated will not only protect residents, but staff members and their families. We will continue to improve our vaccination rate again during this next flu season.”

More than 95 employees at Maple Lawn Senior Care Campus received flu vaccinations for the 2012-2013 flu season. That number represents 93 percent of the staff.

Through the Minnesota FluSafe program, health care facilities receive guidance and access to tools and promotional materials from MDH and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help them increase their rates. The facilities record and document their vaccinations through MDH's electronic immunization information system.
