There's more on the line than just the outcome of the football game against Renville Co. West this Friday evening. As the players watch tapes and prepare for their opponent, the students here in Fulda as well as relatives and the entire community are asked to take the Do Not Text and Drive pledge!

Last Friday, Principal Gregg Slaathaug accepted a challenge between our school and RCW to see who could log the most pledges to not text and drive. A member of the MN Safety Council chose our two schools because we are football opponents for the Sept. 20 game.

On Monday, just after noon, Fulda kicked off the challenge. Students gathered in the gym with cellphones in hand ready to make that first pledge. Taylor Kenney and Marissa Kunerth explained the challenge. Both girls have many years of experience with the NOYS and Act Out Loud programs. NOYS and Act Out Loud are sponsoring this week's nationwide awareness by getting schools, like ours, to speak out against texting while driving.

Here is where the students in Fulda need your help. Please contact relatives and friends asking them to also take the pledge. You may pledge more than once, in fact you can pledge as many times as you choose. It is just a simple text message.

Send a text To: 464329, then type this code number 56011 for your message to send. You will receive a thank you within a few seconds stating that they appreciate your support in this worthwhile effort.

Not only are we supporting the cause but also saving lives. Our texting pledge challenge ends at noon on Friday, September 20. The winner will be announced during the halftime of the Fulda vs. RCW football game in Renville. You too can be a part of the solution of ending the needless fatalities and accidents caused by texting and driving! Thank you for helping with this challenge.
