Fulda/MCC Warrior Wrestling squad ready for upcoming season

December 5, 2013

By: Sean Solheim
The mats have rolled out once again and the Fulda/Murray County Central Warrior wrestling squad is ready for the upcoming season. Though a few wrestlers left last season due to graduation, coach Dan Blankenship is confident that a lot of returning wrestlers will have great seasons this year.

The Warriors had some great wrestlers last season and four of them left the team due to graduation. Those included Ben Loosbrock, Brian Behrends, Shay Posthuma, and Arron Benson. Those four wrestlers helped fill in the heavier weight classes last year, in which thatís something that will be a struggle as a team for the Warriors this season since there isnít a lot of bigger kids in the wrestling room. Despite that one struggle, the Warriors look to a couple teams as the ones to beat in their section.

Dawson Boyd/LQPV/Montevideo, along with Worthington Area, are the teams that the Warriors look to beat in the section this year. Though the teams might meet in indivudual tournaments along the way, they wonít actually battle as a team until late in January just before the section team tournaments. According to Blankenship, the rest of the schedule has tough competition all season long.

Coach Blankenship is confident that the main strength of this season will be in the individual success of a number of wrestlers. All wrestlers are moving up in class this year due to their growth since last year, however, eight of those still have a shot at making a run for the state tournament this year. Coach Blankenship feels that Jon Gehl, Clayton Hartle, Ben Blanchette, Tate Meyer, Will Gehl, Tanner Nelson, Dylan Nelson, and Nathan Beech all will have a chance for the state tournament as an individual. Ethan Heintz, Shawn Hilleshein, Dalton Keeler, Jimmy Carlson, Derek Hilleshein, Kenny Hilleshein, Danny Blankenship, Logan Ahlers, Homero Hernandez, and Jenny Hilleshein fill out the rest of the Warrior roster and look to have great season themselves.

The Warriors begin their season on December 3rd when they travel to St. James. Good luck Warriors this season.
