55-52
Fulda held a one point lead at halftime 30-29 and held Adrian scoreless for five minutes to start the second half to gain a ten point advantage 41-31. However, Adrian was able to come back in the last minutes of the game to post a 55-52 victory.

The Raiders found themselves in a deep hole as they hosted the Dragons on Tuesday evening. Down 4-12 in the early minutes, Fulda eventually got their feet underneath them.

Several fouls and turnovers hampered the Raider offensive attack. They started to roll just under the 10:00 minute mark in the first half outscoring Adrian 8-5. Ryan Schumacher dumped in six points to help aid in the Raider offensive drive. Brian Fenske, back in the line up after suffering an ankle injury in football, knocked down a three while Cole Dierks added a jumper for two points.

With Fulda down 17-21 at the 5:00 minute mark, Bennett Appel connected on a three-point to pull within one. Dierks grabbed a steal and converted for a layup to tie the game at 21 a piece with just under five minutes left to play in the first half.

Adrian was able to capitalize on Fulda turnovers and fouls to regain the lead at 25-22. Josh Ramerth turned in two points from the charity stripe. Fulda grabbed the offensive rebound and quickly got the ball out to Dierks on the wing who drilled a 3 point shot putting the Raiders up by one, 27-26 with 1:47 left on the clock.

The Dragons returned down court and senior Nick Reyne returned the favor dropping in a three of his own. The first half closed with Fenske hitting a two and put Fulda back on top, 30-29.

Fulda started out quick in the second with Ramerth dropping in two points. Several exchanges ensued the following two minutes holding each team scoreless before Appel posted up for a two point bucket, 34-29.

Fulda was able to extend their lead to ten points (41-31) by the 12 minute mark in the game with a three by Dierks followed up by Fenske driving the middle for a jump shot.

With 11:35 left to play in the game, Adrian started making a run and outscored Fulda 16-3 to pull ahead 46-43.

Josh Ramerth was able to break the scoreless streak converting a two pointer and then added another two points off an assist from Brett Cuperus (47-47) with 5:52 left to play in the game.

Nearly a minute ticked off the clock before either team scored again. Finally Fenske was sent to the line where he dropped in a free throw. Junior Collin Kemper (Adrian) converted a free throw to tie the game at 48-48. Bennett Appel, on the other end, dropped in both his free throw attempts giving Fulda a 50-48 edge in the contest with 3:50 left to play. Later Ramerth added two free throws of his own following a converted free throw on Adrian’s end (50-50) as the clock his the three minute mark.

Adrian’s Taylor Recker caused havoc turning a steal into a layup along with a previous bucket putting the Dragons on top 54-50 with 1:17 left to play.

As the final second played out Ramerth was able to convert on two free of three free throws attempting to bounce the third off the rim in hopes obtaining an offensive board. Fulda grabbed the loose ball and as the buzzer went Brett Cuperus let the ball fly. However, the ball missed the mark and Fulda takes the three point loss, 52-55.

“It was a hard found game that went down to the wire,” commented head coach Colby Pack. “We just need to shore up on our mistakes.”

Fulda had four guys in double figures however, committed 28 turnovers, gave up 19 offensive rebounds and only got off 48 shots in the game. “And we only lost by three,” continued Pack. “We are playing VERY good team defense.” And went on to say, “We are doing a lot of things right, just have to cut down on the things we are not doing well and we are not as far away as people think.”

Josh Ramerth topped the scoring charts with 14 points on the night while claiming 10 rebounds for a double-double. Cole Dierks added 12 points including two three-pointers while grabbing 5 boards and handing on 6 assists. Also in double figures were Bennett Appel and Brian Fenske with 10 points a piece. Appel also hauled in 11 rebounds also earning a double-double on the night.

Fulda was 3 of 18 beyond the arc and 15 of 27 in the paint for 40% to go with 13 of 20 from the charity stripe.

Adrian was 2 of 21 from three point land and dropped in 17 of 42 in the paint tallying 30.2% shooting.

Fulda will host a girl/boy double-header this Friday against Wabasso. The girls varsity will kick off action at 6:00 p.m. followed by the boys varsity. Saturday evening the Fulda boys will face off with Luverne beginning at 3:00 p.m.
