Jerry’s Jottings

February 13, 2014

by Jerry Johnson
A real treat for Valentine's Day would be a couple of weeks in the tropics. Toes in the warm sand and a gentle ocean breeze carrying gulls and terns searching for food in the receding tide. The day’s high at 82 and the night's low around 63 and the only variation in the next few weeks is a degree or two. The walk on miles of beach is marked only by your footprints in the sand on your idle search for the perfect shell. A place where words like ice refer to the cubes in your glass and drifts, windchill, snow, sleet and blizzard are a foreign language.

A break is needed from the tedium of shoveling, an escape from snow covered everything. It is a world of white while we wait for the blustery days of March. More snow is offered this week but the temperatures will improve.

The Fulda Wood Duck Festival will have a carnival this year. Cody Rides, a Minnesota based company is under contract. They will run three days, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 19, 20, and 21 with Sunday in the Park on June 22.
