A party was happening in the Activities Room at Maple Lawn Senior Care on Friday, June 27th. Ethel Struble, formerly of Dundee, MN, was celebrating her 98th birthday!

Struble was born on June 27, 1912, in Dundee. She married Clarence Struble on July 3, 1933. After their marriage they lived in Dundee where Clarence worked as a barber. He also worked as a barber in Brewster for many years.

In 1937, the Strubleís moved out west and stayed there for one year. They came back to southwest Minnesota and resided in Delft for about three years. They then moved back to Dundee.

Ethel was a dedicated homemaker and mother. She and Clarence raised two children: Lyle and Carol.

Ethel has seven granddaughters, twelve great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren.

Strubles were recognized in 1999 as Dundeeís oldest living couple. They were active in the Dundee community and in their church. They lived in Dundee until they moved into Maplewood Court in July of 2006. Clarence passed away in November of 2006.

In 2011, Ethel moved into Maple Lawn Senior Care.

Celebrating Ethelís 98th birthday were many members of her family - most of who live in the Kansas City area, along with a nephew and his wife, Pat and Judy Peddycoart, who are residents of Spirit Lake, Iowa.

When asked to share a special memory of her mother, Carol McMurray responded, ďIn almost 75 years of marriage, mom and dad never were separated except during the war, and when my daughter, Carol Ann, was born. Mom made the trip to Kansas City then to help me. They were always together, enjoyed being together...and they were teenagers when they married!Ē

Ethelís daughter, Carol, Raymore, MO, has three daughters: Tammie, Jennie, and Cheryl. Her son Jim, Overland Park, KS, has four daughters: Jaimie, Wendy, Olivia and Sara.

It was a real joy for Ethel to have a five-generation photo taken during her birthday celebration on Friday. The photo is of herself, her daughter Carol McMurray, Carolís daughter, Carol Ann Martinez, Carol Annís daughter, Tammie Wolfe, and Tammieís daughter, Wanda Wolfe.

ďSheís a wonderful mother,Ē Carol McMurray stated. ďI have been very blessed to have her as my mom.Ē

Ethel, who always seems to have a smile on her face, was asked how she has managed to stay so happy for so many years. ďI have had a very good life. I have been blessed with a wonderful family and with people who have helped to make life good. They take good care of me.Ē
