Jerry's Jottings

August 7, 2014

by Jerry Johnson
The month of August seems so much longer with Labor Day in September. It's the small things that bring a little happiness. This month we have first, the Nobles County Fair, and next week the Murray County Fair, offering corn dogs, cotton candy and those always great malts. See you there.

I received an invitation to the Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener which is at Worthington this year. The October hunt is scheduled for the 10-11th. The two day event is hosted by the Worthington Area Convention and Visitor Bureau, Nobles County Pheasants Forever, Explore Minnesota Tourism and the Department of Natural Resources. It could be a good time.

I have noticed that there seems to be more earwigs around now than there was earlier in the spring. Those little squirmy things can give you the willies. Mosquitoes and flies I can tolerate but not earwigs. On the bright side I had a monarch butterfly fluttering about the milkweed in my garden. The monarch is one critter I would love to see a lot more.

Have a good week!
