Four players scored between 23 and 17 points for Adrian/Ellsworth, leading the balanced Dragons to an 87-71 victory over the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes in a key Red Rock Conference high school boys’ basketball game last Thursday night (February 6) at Adrian.
It was a matchup featuring a pair of first-year cooperative programs who are both in the middle of the pack of the conference standings. The game was also important for section seeding purposes.
A/E (12-9 overall, 6-5 in the conference) outscored HL-O/F (8-13, 6-6) by eight points in each half, building a 38-30 halftime lead and extending the final margin to 16 by winning the second half 49-41.
The Coyotes were within six points (52-46) midway through the second half, but were unable to consistently slow down the Dragons. A/E quickly pushed its lead back to double digits and maintained at least an eight-point cushion until the end of the game.
