The small town of Dundee was filled with visitors on Saturday, as the Joseph Suding Post 386 celebrated their 100th anniversary.
Red, white and blue were the colors of the day, as people of all ages were wearing patriotic colors, lawns and homes were decorated for the occasion and flags were flying throughout the town.
Events began early in the afternoon as an inflatable bounce house and a variety of children’s games were enjoyed near Brenda’s Gas and Grocery and in the City Park. A ring toss game, a favorite of former Dundee Legion member and former Commander T.K. Clark, was run by members of his family. Barbecues were enjoyed by many prior to the lengthy parade which began at 2:00 p.m.
As with most parades, the colors were presented first, with members of many area Legion Posts joining members of the Joseph Suding Post 386. Classic cars, old tractors, floats, fire trucks and much more were seen during the parade.
Following the parade, the Dundee Legion Post held a Veteran’s Program in the park. Joseph Suding Post 386 Commander Mike Loosbrock welcomed visitors and shared some of the history of the post, in addition to correcting an error regarding the first President of the Auxiliary. It had long been believed that the first President of the Auxiliary was the mother of Joseph Suding, when it was his wife, Augusta Rostomily Suding.
