During the month just past, Lucas and Rachel Isder, along with Pastor John Nau of Solid Rock Assembly Church in Worthington, and Andrew Norris, Albany, Minnesota, had the privilege of traveling to East Africa to teach at an English learning center.
The trip included more than 30 hours of flying time, each way, to and from Africa.
Upon returning to the United States, the story of what they learned while teaching English in East Africa has impacted many lives, making those who are hearing about the trip very thankful for the freedoms that are afforded to us as citizens of this country.
Teaching time was at an English learning center with young adults who are done with school, but desire to learn the English language.
“You have to understand, that traveling outside of the United States has never been on our radar,” Lucas stated. “The way this happened was God interacting in our lives. At our Life Group one Sunday evening, John was talking about an upcoming trip to East Africa for the purpose of teaching young adults English. The trip was through Solid Rock Assembly, where John is a pastor. They were having difficulties getting the last person that was needed for the group. He and I visited about it and left it there. I thought it’s not even worth asking Rachel, as she would never go to Africa. The following Sunday, we were talking about the trip again, and Rachel overheard us. She said, ‘I’d go to Africa!’ I was very surprised, but the more we talked about it and prayed about it, the more we realized that was what we needed to do. This happened three months before the trip was to take place, so we had a lot of things to put into place rather quickly.”
