Falcons hold off Coyotes for 3-2 win in conference game

Playing the combination of Red Rock Central / Westbrook-Walnut Grove for the second time in two weeks, the score was the same but the outcome was reversed last Thursday, April 25, in a high school varsity baseball game between the visiting Falcons and Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda at Heron Lake’s Laker Field.

The game was again moved to Heron Lake as RRC’s field in Lamberton is still too wet to play on.

In the first game between the two Red Rock Conference opponents (at Heron Lake on April 9), the Coyotes won in extra innings (nine) by a final score of 3-2.

This time, it was the Falcons winning by a final score of 3-2 after taking a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. RRC was the home team in last week’s game.

With the result, HL-O / Fulda is now 2-3 in the competitive conference (3-4 overall) with five league game remaining (two against Murray County Central and one each versus Mountain Lake Are / Comfrey, Edgerton / Southwest Minnesota Christian and Adrian).

The Falcons scored once in the second inning Thursday after drawing back-to-back walks, advancing on an error and another walk. In the third, a single, a triple (by Austin Irlbeck) and an error pushed across RRC / W-WG’s two runs.
