Five returning offensive starters, 10 players with varsity experience on defense, large sophomore class highlight Coyote football

While the opening game of the 2019 high school football season is still eight days away, the second-year operation of the joint program between Heron Lake-Okabena and Fulda is going well during morning practices in August.

The team won three of nine games in its augural season last fall and was close to winning in three others. With a lot of talent and varsity experience returning, the Coyotes are preparing well for the upcoming first game which will played at Fulda’s Alex Fisher Field next Thursday evening, August 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. against the perennially-good Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots, a team that usually has an abundance of speed.

After each squad scored on its opening possession last year at Hills, H-BC broke the contest open and dominated by scoring often on big plays in a one-sided 62-8 victory in the fifth game of 2018.

As the second week of 2019 unfolds, there is plenty of optimism being generated by the way off-season workouts and early-season practices have been going for this year’s Coyotes.
