Fourth of July in Worthington, Brent and Cheryl Droll selected the name for their brew pub which opens this week.
An article from an 1872 Sibley Gazette told the story of Worthington, as a temperance town. Civil War veterans were drinking and the barrels were chopped up.
The full article can be seen on one of the walls inside the Forbidden Barrel. Stop by and enjoy a beer while reading it.
The Drolls, from rural Okabena, held a soft opening last week, for friends and family, along with The Guardians, supporters of the Forbidden Barrel. The article is also where the name The Guardians was chosen.
The couple decided to decorate the pub with that theme, using items that were forbidden at one time, or still are. Tom Sawyer, candy cigarettes, cock fighting and Cuban cigars are among the items depicted.
