Fulda freshman Zach Thier, an all-around three-sport athlete, whirled the discus a personal record (PR) distance of 123 feet at Mountain Lake’s Munson Field last Thursday (May 17), winning that event in the eight-team Red Rock Conference high school track and field meet.

Thier’s winning throw was nearly nine feet better than the second-place toss of 114-5 (by Hills-Beaver Creek junior Garrett Raymon) and more than nine feet farther than Ellsworth junior Carter Boyenga’s third-place distance of 113-9. There were a total of 20 throwers in the competition.

“Zach’s first-place performance in the discus was a definite highlight for our boys,” declared Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda head coach Brad Holinka. “He has worked hard at his events and continues to improve. It’s quite an accomplishment for a freshman boy to win a conference title.”
