On September 27th, the September monthly meeting of Fulda Area Community Club was held at the Fulda City Hall with around 10 eager Fulda citizens present. The attendance was on the light side due to the Minnesota Vikings football game vs the Los Angeles Rams. (Can you believe the NFL scheduled a Minnesota Vikings game at the same time as the Fulda Community Club meeting?)
Items discussed included the following:
• Miss Fulda Parade and Mileage – Payment of the mileage and parade expenses for the 2018 parade season were approved, approximately $1,100.
• 2018 Fulda Wood Duck Festival – The final financial recap was given with total receipts of $23,007 and total expenses of $19,422 for a net profit of $3,383.
• 2019 Fulda Wood Duck Festival – There was a discussion on a having a carnival with the consensus being to contact carnivals for availability and terms. Everyone was in agreement that a carnival brings more people to our festival.
• Scholastic Reading Program – The fundraising effort, for providing reading books to elementary school children in Fulda, has had amazing results with over $600 donated so far. As additional funds are donated, additional classes are included in this program. A special thanks to Ann Witzel for collecting the donations and to Susan Lee for administering the program at the Fulda Elementary School.
• Parade of Lights Committee Report – The first committee meeting was held on September 16th. The 2018 Parade of Lights Theme is “Candy Cane Christmas”. Several events are being planned for this year including the following:
• December 4th – The 1st Annual “Uffda” Hot Dish Cook-Off prior to the FHS Boys Basketball Game with an “Ugly Sweater” contest at halftime of the game, as fundraisers for the Parade of Lights expenses.
A medallion hunt during the week of December 3rd thru December 8th with daily clues at Fulda businesses
•December 8th a FULL day and evening of FUN, including:
A Full Winter Gear/Holiday Costume Family Fun Ramble (Walk or Run) in the morning
Christmas Pot decorating, Turkey Bowling for adults, Cornish Hen Bowling for kids, Wagon or Sleigh Rides,
Santa Claus Visit to Fulda, Parade of Lights, Fire Pots for Roasting Marshmallows after the parade
Watch for details in the coming weeks!
The final times and events schedule will be fine-tuned at upcoming committee meetings.
•CommUNITY of Fulda – Letters were distributed to Fulda business encouraging them to support the upcoming FHS Homecoming activities the week of October 1 thru 5, by decorating their windows and joining the Fulda students in their special dress up days. The goal is to start building stronger ties or UNITY between our community and our school!
•Quilt Fundraiser – Each year we have leftovers from our Wood Duck Festival t-shirt sales. We have contacted Fulda quilt makers and are looking into having quilts made with some of our leftover t-shirts. The quilts could then be used as fundraisers to help cover the Miss Fulda Scholarships and parade expenses.
EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to attend our next meeting and to seriously consider joining us as we all work for a better Fulda!
