On August 30th, the August monthly meeting of Fulda Area Community Club was held at the Fulda City Hall with 20 plus very interested people that are excited about Fulda!
Items discussed included the following:
• Liability Insurance Policy for the Community Club for the current year. The total premium approved for payment was $1,782. It was suggested that our insurance be invited to attend our next meeting to answer several questions regarding our coverage and limitations on special events.
• Miss Fulda Update – Profits from the Wood Duck Festival Walk/Run for 2017- $974.83, and 2018-$884.24, were transferred from the Wood Duck Festival account to the regular Community Club account. The profits from the Wood Duck Festival Walk/Run are used to fund the $1,000 Miss Fulda Scholarships each year, plus the expenses of attending area parades with the Miss Fulda Court and the Fulda Community Float. The total amount is typically around $2,000 to $2,200. New fundraising ideas were discussed to generate additional funds for these expenses such as reviving the old program of “Guess the Time of a Sinking Car on Fulda Lake.”
• The preliminary financial recap for the 2018 Fulda Wood Duck Festival was given with total receipts around $22,000 and total expenses around $18,500. The final recap will be presented after settling with this year’s carnival and two vendor receivables collected.
• Ideas for additions to the 2019 Fulda Wood Duck Festival: *Inviting vendors to set up for Sunday in the Park with a flat fee of $25 to $35 to reserve a place *Activities for young children during Sunday in the Park * A dunk tank with local “special” people.
• The Community Club joined the Scholastic Book Program which provides reading books to elementary school children on a needs basis which will be determined by the Fulda Elementary School staff. The donation is $9 per school year and a student would get a new book each month. ANYONE can donate to this program! Those interested should make out their checks to “Scholastic” and mail them to Ann Witzel at PO Box 383 in Fulda…
• For the 2018 Craft Fair at the Fulda High School in November, Community Club volunteers will be needed to help with the Friday preparations at the school and again on Saturday to help vendors move into the school and leave the school at the end of the day. Suggestions included the possibility of including Fulda High School student athletes to help out.
• The 2018 Parade of Lights Committee has MANY new ideas to enhance this year’s event which is now scheduled for Saturday December 8th. Ideas included: *Turkey bowling on main street for adults and kids * Window decorations in Fulda businesses * A Hot Dish/Casserole Cook Off * A Bonfire * Winter Fireworks * A Winter Run and many others. The committee plans to meet in about two weeks and invite ANYONE interested in helping plan this event to attend.
• The By-laws of the Fulda Area Community Club state that there should be a 6 member Board of Directors elected by the membership. The elected Board then appoints a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer as officers of the Club. We are currently operating with 2 officers – a President and a Treasurer. It was decided to elect 4 members at our September membership meeting to fill the vacant positions on a temporary basis. At our 2019 Annual meeting in January, we will then get back into the rotation of electing 3 Board positions each year.
EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to attend our next meeting and to seriously consider joining us as we all work for a better Fulda!
