On Friday, March 23rd seniors Dalton Slinger, Mathias Kunerth, Leighton Gehl, and Camryn Baumhoefner traveled to Wabasso for the annual Tim Orth All Jamboree Basketball Game fundraiser. The event features seniors from the Red Rock Conference playing against senior for the Tomahawk Conference. The first of the two games that night featured the girls’ team and the second was the boys’ team.
As always, the profits from the event was given to individuals with major medical expenses that have been chosen by the Tim Orth Foundation. This year’s recipients were Jonathan Ladd, son of Kami Johnson from Fairfax. Seven year old Jonathan has Cerebal Palsy. Jonathan family was in a car accident when pregnant, resulting Jonathan’s Cerebral Palsy. His father was killed in the accident. he has overcome many obstacles and works hard at accomplishing goals. The second recipient was Sean Forst, son of Ben and Val from New Ulm. Sean is five months old. He was born four month premature. He developed NECC early on which led to two surgeries. He is home, but still has complications. Third recipient was Trenton Bass, son of Jeff and Missy from Hills. On September 8, 2017, Bass sustained a traumatic neck injury during a varsity football game. That same night he underwent surgery to repair two broken vertebrae. He is able to move his arms and has some feeling in his fingers; however, at this point he does not feel below his breastbone.
Besides the three point shooting contest before the games, there were a number of professional mascots there including “Crunch” from the Timberwolves, “Goldie” from the Minnesota Gophers, the “Bear” from the Utah Jazz, and Luck from the Boton Celtics basketball team.
The mission of the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation is to assist, financially or otherwise, children in the West Central Minnesota area who are facing substantial medical expenses incurred as a result of a serious accident or illness.
Tim Orth, the Foundation’s namesake, was a BOLD high school student and athlete when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Tim will always be remembered for his courageous fight against the cancer that claimed his life on February 14, 1997.
