The Fulda Boys’ Basketball team opened up its 2017-18 season with a 84-65 victory over Heron Lake – Okabena on Thursday night.
Matthias Kunerth and Dalton Slinger led the Raiders in scoring with 21 points each, respectively. Kunerth added 10 rebounds and 5 assists, while Slinger added 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Zach Thier added 11 points for the Raiders.
The Raiders opened the game pushing the ball in transition and finding success attacking the basket for scores. They continued their success offensively knocking down 11 first half 3-pointers. Layups by Slinger, Sam Cheadle, and Leighton Gehl pushed the lead up to 21-9 midway through the half.
The Wildcats made a push back into the game with the success of Eli Fest driving to the basket, and offensive rebounds by Ben Sheldahl and Gabe Villarreal. But Fulda closed the half strong with 3 pointers by Thier, Cory Renneke and Tyler Madison, giving Fulda a 51-38 lead going into the break.
