Face Aging MN’s virtual storyboard highlights stories of professional caregivers in Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS (April 8, 2018) – As a family caregiver for his mother and administrator for Maple Lawn Senior Care, Arlan Swanson knows the importance and value of compassionate care and planning ahead.
Having worked as an administrator at Maple Lawn Senior Care for 26 years in Fulda, Minnesota, Arlan Swanson says it’s interesting to be on the other side of long-term care. When his 90-year-old mother fell and broke her hip, he experienced senior care from the perspective of a patient’s family.
Arlan says seeing his mom do well and recover with a great attitude has been a rewarding part of the journey. “She was joking with the doctors on her way into surgery,” Arlan recalls.
His mother’s surgery went well and she is in physical therapy. Now, Arlan is helping her develop a safer living environment at her apartment.
We will all need at least a little care at some point in our lives, says Arlan, so senior care issues should matter to every Minnesotan. “We want to be loved and respected in the journey.”
“We [all] want to be loved and respected in the journey,” Swanson said.
