Fulda City Council Wastewater treatment future

A special meeting of the Fulda City Council was held on Monday night to discuss the wastewater treatment future in Fulda. With the recent departure of the previous city employee licensed to conduct and oversee test on the city’s wastewater discharge, changes were required to be made. Time requirements and finding someone qualified to do the work need to be considered.

Two proposals were presented during the meeting. The first was from Peoples Service, who would supply complete service to the lagoons, all maintenance, chemicals, licenses and repairs. They would have a person within 30 minutes of the city for emergencies. They have other people in the area servicing cities like Heron Lake, Lakefield, Okabena, Walnut Grove and 66 other cities in Minnesota. They could be up and running by the next filing date in February. The cost would $79,200 per year. It would save the city on hours, training and chemical costs.

The other proposal was from Tony VandenBosch, who is licensed to handle wastewater and potable water. VandenBosch works at the Heron Lake Bio-Energy and that would be his first priority, he also monitors Dundee’s wastewater. The cost would be $12,000 per year.

The council will take time to make the decision and set this Thursday, January 17, for another meeting to decide.

In other business the meeting with the city, fire department and members of the township boards was rescheduled until Wednesday, February 13.
