The Raiders looked to bounce back from their loss against Minneota the next night, when they played host to the Heron Lake-Okabena Wildcats. The Raiders used a strong defense and a well-executed offense with timely baskets to get their first win of the season – 63-51 over HL-O.
Tyler Madison led the Raiders with 29 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Payton Marquardt added 21 points and a team-high 6 assists. Cory Renneke scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds himself.
The Wildcats got out to a quick start with Eli Fest driving to the basket for back to back layups, but Marquardt was able to connect from distance to get the Raiders on the board and off and going. The Raiders locked in a little bit more on defense and forced the Wildcats to take shots that were contested and the Raiders were able to get the rebounds. Madison attacked the basket on 3 straight possessions for scores, which forced a HL-O timeout. The Raiders continued their strong push as Renneke and Marquardt hit 3 pointers of their own. HL-O came down and scored off an offensive rebound, but Madison found the range from deep, which forced the Wildcats to get out of their zone. The Raiders were up 24-18 with roughly 2 and a half minutes to go and went cold. HL-O found some holes in the Fulda defense and was able to tie the game up with 44 seconds to go. Renneke hit 2 FT’s and the Raiders held on for a stop and Fulda led 26-24 at halftime.
