There were 39 graduates (13 girls and 26 boys) who received their diplomas as the Fulda Class of 1943 in a graduation ceremony at the Fulda High School gym on June 1, 1943. There are 8 (3 girls and 5 boys) remaining to remember that evening 76 years ago.
We are all now 92, 93, or 94 years old being born in the 1920’s. We have memories of historical events of our early years including The Depression and World War II. We thank God for safely returning all ten of our classmates after years of military service to their country. Several of the girls left Fulda to work in defense plants. Yes, we have lots of memories.
We were a close knit class enjoying our reunions every five years starting with our 20th. After our 70th we have had a reunion every year. Bernice (Dalin) Camery has hosted the reunion in her home in Worthington the past six years, the most recent being the 76th on September 6, 2019. Three classmates, Art Buschena and Robert Kolander from Fulda and Bernice (Dalin) Camery from Worthington enjoyed being together. We enjoyed phone calls to some who were not able to attend. Those who were not there were: Harold Freetly, Kirkhoven, MN, Coletta (Elskamp) Hayward, Urbandale, IA, Marian (Smith) Nelson, Spokane, WA, Lyle Jones, Bradenton, FL, and Virgil Malenke, Jacksonvlle, FL.
Of course, we plan to have number 77 next year, God willing.
