Students at Fulda School District 505 will have a new superintendent when school begins this year. Superintendent Loy Woelber has many years of experience as an educator and an administrator.
He grew up on a dairy farm north of Pipestone, MN. When the farm crisis of the 1980’s hit their family hard, Woelber’s father told him that he must go to college rather than farm.
“So, I went to Minnesota State University Moorhead for a Social Science degree and then I taught in South Dakota and coached wrestling,” Woelber stated. “From there I obtained my Masters degree and principal endorsement at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.”

In 1995, Loy accepted the position of principal at the Chokio-Alberta School District. He served there for six years, holding both the principal and superintendent positions for the last three years.
The Woelber’s moved to Westbrook, MN, in 2001, where Loy had accepted the position of superintendent. He has served the Westbrook-Walnut Grove School District in that capacity for the past eighteen years. During those years, he has also held superintendent positions with the Balaton, Lake Benton, Tracy, Heron Lake-Okabena, and now Fulda School Districts. “We are trying to save the Districts some funds by sharing superintendents,” Woelber explained.
For two years, he worked as both the superintendent and principal at WWG. “I found that I couldn’t serve in that capacity effectively and that it is best to have a principal in place,” Woelber shared.
