Fulda Legion dropped 2 games in the Sub-District tournament in Luverne to finish 5th. Fulda fell to Heron Lake-Okabena 16-6 and Adrian 10-0. In game 1, Fulda got off to a fast start, scoring 2 runs in the first. Aron Hulstein led off with a single and stole second. Brady Kremer singled to score him, Justin Dierks singled as well, and Kremer later scored when Jarred Jans reached on an error. Unfortunately, the error bug bit Fulda as HL-O would score 9 runs in the first 2 innings, only 1 of which was earned.
Fulda fought back with 4 runs in the 4th, all with 2 outs. Nathan Bakke drew a walk, then Tyler Madison, Hulstein, Brandon Everett, Kremer, Dierks, and Cody Frodermann all reached in a row, the last four on clean singles. Kremer was the losing pitcher for Fulda, going the first 2 2/3 innings and striking out 5. He also added 3 hits and scored a run. Brady led the team in hitting this season, innings pitched, and strikouts. Justin Dierks had 2 hits, and Aron Hulstein scored 2 runs.
The following day the Fulda season ended with a loss to Adrian. Justin Dierks was the starting pitcher, going 3 innings, allowing 10 runs (8 earned) while striking out 3. Justin was one of the top hitters on the team this season, batting over .400, and was 4th on the team in innings pitched. Tyler Madison made his Legion pitching debut with a scoreless 4th inning. He will be a returning player next season with Nathan Bakke and Jarred Jans. Nathan Bakke, Jarred Jans, and Will Gehl had hits for Fulda.
The Fulda Legion team would like to extend a big thank you to the Fulda Legion Post 318 for sponsoring us again this season. We would also like to thank the Fulda Free Press for covering the team, and of course all of our many fans for the support. Looking forward to a great 2018 season already in a great baseball town!
