FULDA PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

Monday, April 19, 2018 – 6:00 P.M.

The Board of Education meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Vice Chairperson, Phil Kramer.

Members present were Jason Appel, Phil Kramer, Don Tiesler (came late), Kayla Clarke, Stan Kramer and Brian VanderBeek. Absent was Theane Pagel. Others present were Superintendent Ann Wendorff, Elementary Principal Mike Pagel, HS Principal Tyson Walker, Colby Pack, District Bookkeeper Lisa Staples and Norma Dittman.

Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Brian VanderBeek to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried.

Motion by Brian VanderBeek, seconded by Kayla Clarke to approve the Consent Agenda, which included the following items: Minutes from Regular Board Meeting March 12, 2018. Bills, Imprest Fund Report, Activity Fund Report and Financial Reports. Approved Open Enrollment Request for McNab, Acknowledged outgoing open enrollment requests for Rummens. Approved Contracts for J. Curry – Assistant Baseball Coach and Carlson – Jr. High Golf Coach.  Approved letter of resignation from Abby Hayenga.  Approved Letters of Retirement from Lisa Peterson and Mary Brake. Approved 2018-19 Contract for English Teacher – Robert Lutz.  Approved Building Usage Agreement for Heritage Society Country Show. Approved Request for Medical Leave of Absence for Employee. Motion carried.

• Gave report on Community Education programs and numbers

Mr. Pack’s Report

• Coaching positions filled and needed

• So far approximately 2,900 bags of salt sold

• Talked about opening up head coach positions for Girls Basketball & Football with HLO

• Mrs. Wndorff wondering about combining with HLO with Volleyball, our coach is leaving, could this be the time to consider this?

Ms. Wendorff’s Report

• Leo Voss brought in his Korean War Memorial for the kids to view

• New phone system was installed, much clearer and working well

• Negotiations to start with MSEA around May

• Went to City Council Meeting

o Not interested in getting rid of Channel 3, but not going to update either

o Had discussions about the pool

• Stan talked about Collaborative Council Meeting

Recognition of District Groups & Supporters

• Thank you to the Legion and Auxiliary for sponsoring safety patrol

• Thank you to Beth Cuperus and the Library for hosting author

• Thank you to Mr. Pack and Mr. Erdmann for help with the Salt Sale Program

• Thank you to Evelyn Behr estate for the gift to the pool

• Thank you to Lisa Peterson, Mary Brake and Abby Hayenga for their service to the Fulda Schools!

New Business

Motion by Kayla Clarke, seconded by Brian to approve revised 2017-18 calendar after snow days. Updates highlighted by Ann, Mike and Tyson. Students will not come back after May 25th, Teachers will make up days on May 29 and 30.  Motion carried.

Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Kayla Clarke to approve 2018-19 school year calendar. Ann, Mike and Tyson highlighted the two options. Motion to approve propose option #2.  Motion carried.

Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Don Tiesler to approve FEA 2017-2019 Master Agreement. Motion carried.

Motion by Don Tiesler, seconded by Brian VanderBeek to approve Elementary Summer School and ESY Programs. Motion carried.

Motion by Brian VanderBeek, seconded by Jason Appel to approve Revised Budget for FY 2018. Lisa highlighted revenue off of 317 students. Figured revenue conservatively and expenses on the strong side.  Motion carried.

Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Kayla Clarke to approve Joint Powers agreement with MCC for FACS teacher. Motion carried.

Mr. Pagel went over possible options for Elementary Classroom Staffing Options for 2018-19 School Year. Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Brian VanderBeek to approve option #3 – Reduction of 1 classroom teacher and reducing 1st and 3rd grade to single sections.  Motion carried.
