FULDA PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING Monday, September 10, 2018 – 6:00 P.M.

The Board of Education meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairperson, Don Tiesler.
Members present were Phil Kramer, Don Tiesler, Stan Kramer, Kayla Clarke, Brian VanderBeek and Jason Appel. Absent was Theane Pagel. Others present were Superintendent Loy Woelber, Principal Mike Pagel, Athletic Director Colby Pack, Brittany Perish, Lisa Staples, Norma Dittman, Lance Marki, Grant Harms, Luke Isder, Grant Isder and Micah Isder.
Motion by Phil Kramer, seconded by Brian VanderBeek to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried.
Mr. Woelber highlighted a few items on the consent agenda. Lisa Staples gave a financial report. Motion by Brian VanderBeek, seconded by Phil Kramer to approve the Consent Agenda, which included the following items: Minutes from Regular Board Meeting August 13, 2018 and Special Meeting August 27, 2018, Bills, Activity Fund Report and Financial Reports. Approved Band Fundraisers Approved/Acknowledged Open Enrollment Requests – Graw (3). Approved Lane Changes for J. Elness, T. Erdmann, C. Freeman and S. Lee. Approved contracts for extra-curricular employees. Approved contract for Paraprofessionals – Jena Meinders, Bridget Carlson and Petra Jimenez. Approved medical leave of absence for certified employee. Approved agreement for open gym supervisor – Andrew Olson. Approved building usage request from Sheri Isder for a piano recital. Approved contract for food service employee – Joyce Kanten. Approved substitute teacher contract for Marcine Elder. Motion carried.
Open Forum
Lance Marki – Senior Class President & Spokesperson
-Discussed some concerns they have with the cell phone policy. They would like to have a couple of times during the day where students are allowed to check their phones. Possibly during lunch or study hall.
Community Ed
•Great summer at the pool. Thanks to all lifeguards and staff!
•Fall pool hours are Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
•Sophia Nelson is continuing private lessons.
•Aquacise and Aerobics continue to have consistent numbers.
Athletic Director
•Girls Basketball head coach will be filled by HL-O
•Jr. High will have one from Fulda, one from HL-O
•Have balanced home games between Okabena and Fulda. The last 2 home games will be one at Fulda, one at HLO
•Recent football game was awesome. Great game, great fans!
•Talked about assistant coaches
Mr. Pagel’s Report
•HS enrollment is 155 and have 3 foreign exchange students
•Highlighted staff changes, Chromebooks and program changes
•Pre-school started today
•Homecoming week is Oct. 1-6
•1st Responders will have Mutual Aid training Sept. 22nd for active shooter training
Mr. Harms’ Report
•Highlighted activities and projects from the first week of school
•Things are going well
•K-6 enrollment is 195
Mr. Woelber’s Report
• Enrollment is up 30 students for 2018-19 over 2017-18. Awesome start!
• Highlighted some ideas of things to adjust
• Good staff and programs! Great start to the year!

•Small bleachers next to main bleachers on the football field – too wet to get there
Recognition of District Groups/Supporters
Thank you to Mr. Woelber and students for cleaning up grass piles out of the trees!

Mr. Woelber highlighted tax levy information and recommended to levy for the max. Motion by Brian VanderBeek, seconded by Jason Appel to approve of certification of the preliminary 2018 tax levy payable in 2019 at the maximum rate. Motion carried.
Motion by Phil Kramer, seconded by Brian VanderBeek to approve setting truth in taxation hearing for Monday Dec. 10, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the High School Library. Motion carried.
Reviewed a quote for IXL for 375 students for Math. Will also be adding Science this year. Motion by Brian VanderBeek, seconded by Kayla Clarke to approve quote for IXL program. Motion carried.
Working on contracts for Principal and Assistant Principal, will be done by Wednesday. Motion by Kayla Clarke, seconded by Stan Kramer to approve letter of request for part-time leave of absence from elementary teacher. Motion carried.
Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Kayla Clarke to approve Chromebook handbook and policy manual. District has 120 Chromebooks. Motion carried.
