Fulda Summer Rec Baseball is under way

Starting in early June, the Fulda Little Mites, Big Mites and Midgets have started baseball practice and have competed in games against Lakefield, Okabena, Heron Lake and Edgerton. It’s been a fun first couple of weeks of baseball as the boys have been playing fundamental, competitive baseball thus far to start the season. The Little Mites (ages 10 and under) have got off to a hot start, with a record of 3 wins and 1 tie. The Big Mites (ages 12 and under) also have had a solid start with a 3-1 record. The Fulda Midgets (ages 15 and under) have also played very competitive ball and started the season 1-2. All three teams are coached by head coach Todd Peterson and assistant coach Bennett Appel.

Little Mites

The young Raiders got off to a hot start and haven’t slowed down since. They started the season with a 10-0 win over Lakefiel. Even with 21 boys ages 10 and under, all the Little Mites contributed up and down the line-up. Scoring for the Raiders were Jackson Kramer (2x), Keegan Spittle (2x), Dillon Smith, Zack Kirchner, Jon Danneman, Dalton Dierks, Anthony Paplow, and Albert Vega. Defensively, many of the boys made great plays and did not commit any errors on the day. Dillon Smith, Keegan Spittle, Jackson Kramer and Brenton Erdmann combined to pitch a shut-out on the day.

Big Mites

The Fulda 12 year olds and younger have also had success on the field, losing only one game on the young season. In the first game of the season, Fulda defeated Lakefield 8-0. Gunnar McNab had a fantastic game, scoring 3 times in the game and also pitching a shutout striking out 10 total. Dylan Kramer reached base all 3 times, while Wyatt Meyeraan had a huge double in the 4th to break open the game. Tavan Mitchell, Caleb Ethridge and Ethan Nielson also scored in the game.

Midgets

Fulda’s 15 years and younger team has had some up and downs this summer already as they have won a walk off and also lost on a walk off. There is no 15 year olds on the team and it relies heavily on many of the 12 year old 6th graders. In its first game of the season, Fulda was able to defeat Lakefield on walk off fashion 9-7. Fulda scored 5 runs in the first inning with Ethan Slaathaug, Ryder Henning, Zach Thier, Gunnar McNab and Dylan Kramer all scoring. They didn’t score again until the 4th when Ryder Henning had a clutch single to score Ethan. Fulda gave up their lead in the top of 5th but was able to win on a walk off in the bottom half of the inning as Zack and Gunnar scored to secure the win. Ethan Slaathaug and Zach Thier both struck out 7 batters to help the Raiders cause.
