The future design of US Highway 59 in Worthington has progressed to the next phase and residents are encouraged to attend an open house set for Thursday, Feb. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Biotechnology Advancement Center, 1527 Prairie Drive, Worthington.
Attendees will be able to weigh in or comment on designs relating to accesses, intersections and general configurations of US Highway 59. A second survey has been posted online at us59worthingtoncorridor.com to gather input on the designs from those unable to attend. The survey results to-date will be shared at the meeting and project partners will be there to listen to and talk to individuals about the study. Anyone who has not taken the survey can do so at the meeting.
The mill and overlay plans on US Highway 59 scheduled for this summer will be available at the open house. The resurfacing is necessary to preserve the pavement until the future reconstruction.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation, Nobles County and the city of Worthington have partnered to prepare for a future urban reconstruction of US Highway 59 including:
US 59 (Humiston Avenue) from I-90 to Oxford Street
County Highway 35 (Oxford Street) from McMillan to Humiston Avenue
US 59 (Oxford Street) from Humiston Avenue to the Minnesota Highway 60 (MN 60) roundabout
The purpose of the US 59 Worthington Corridor Study is to create a long-term and common vision for the reconstruction of US 59, support and sustain economic development, safely accommodate all modes of transportation and encourage pedestrian and bicycle movements.
