Gabriel Durigan-Alves was looking for an opportunity to improve his English speaking skills as well as learn more about the culture of the United States. He explored his options for becoming a high school exchange students and in August of this year, he boarded a plane in St. Paulo, Brazil, flew to Chicago, Illinois, and then to Sioux Falls. In Sioux Falls he was met by his exchange parents, Jay and Pam Clarke, and settled in for a year of lessons to be learned at Fulda High School.
Gabriel is 16 years of age and is studying as a junior at Fulda High School. He is the son of Lucia Helena Durigan Alves and Joao Mandel Cordeiro Alves. He has one older brother, Joao Pedro Durigan Alves. The family lives in Jaboticabal, São Paulo, Brazil.
Gabriel explained that his dad works with animal nutrition and his mom works for the city of Jaboticabal with the water purification system.
