Once again getting a winning performance from Morgan Gehl, the well-balanced high school girls’ cross country team, representing Murray County Central and Fulda turned in a dominant performance at the seven-team BOLD Invitational last Thursday, October 3.
Running on a flat and fast course on a cool day, the Warrior girls had four girls finish among the first nine and all seven varsity runners make the Top 18 in a field of 44 finishers.
Leading the Warriors was Geh who won the 5,000-meter race by 78 seconds with her remarkable time of 18:12.41.
Ashley Overgaauw (fourth, 20:15.78), Amanda Overgaauw (fifth, 20:16.97) and Josie Harms (ninth, 21:21.31) gave MCC/F four of the top nine, while Brylei Schreier (12th, 21:30.22), Ella Stapek (16th, 21:50.12) and Victoria Pierson (18th, 22:00.06) also each ran very well, making the upper 40 percent of the entire field.
“As has been the case throughout the season, all of our girls raced very well and we were able to earn another team victory,” summed up Warriors head coach Dominick Damm about his squad’s sixth team triumph of the fall campaign. “We are making good progress and running closer to each other for longer, which is what we want to be doing.”
