Wiping tears from her eyes, grandmother, Vicki Canfield, held in her hands three eight inch ponytails that had just been cut from her long hair by Blake Diekmann of Mane Attraction. “The tears aren’t because of the hair – they’re because of the thoughts of Wigs for Kids and what Paetton has been going through most of her life,” Canfield stated.
She chose Wednesday, October 31st, as the day to cut and donate her long hair to Wigs for Kids because Halloween is Canfield’s granddaughter Paetton’s birthday. She celebrated her fifth birthday this year. Paetton is the daughter of Vicki and Doug Canfield’s son, Chance.
Paetton has Wilms tumors which is a type of cancer that begins in the kidneys. “Paetton was nine months old when she was diagnosed with Wilms tumors,” Canfield shared. “She went to the doctor for the routine nine month check-up and that is when they found the Wilms tumors. She was a normal baby. The only signs that there was something wrong was she started having breathing problems and her tummy always felt full.”
