Racing to a 36-7 halftime lead, the well-balanced and undefeated Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots claimed a 66-17 victory over the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes in a Red Rock Conference high school girls’ basketball game last Tuesday night (December 17) in Okabena.
Four players scored in double figures for the Patriots, who improved to 7-0 with the road victory.
“H-BC is a very talented team that works really well together,” Coyotes head coach Andy Oakland said. “They caused a lot of problems for us on both ends of the floor, and we just were not able to match up with them very well.”
Kailee Haberman led the Coyotes with seven points, while Rebecca Salentiny (six rebounds) and Morgan Gehl each scored four points. Kelsey Fuerstenberg added two points and pulled down two rebounds.
“Rebecca came in again and gave us a nice spark in the second half,” Oakland said. “She wasn’t afraid to go in and battle for rebounds, plus she was able to clear herself for some open shots. Kailee and Brittany (Lais) also did a nice job for us.”
