The Hadley Lions are well known in the area for their generosity when it comes to helping others. “It’s been a long time,” Rick Like, president of the group said recently when asked how long they have planned the feeds for the benefit of someone in need.
On January 6, 2018 they will hold another of their famous feeds to raise funds for Carl Schreier who was hurt in an accident recently and is now hospitalized. “We’ll start serving at five until it’s all gone,” Like said. Grilled cheese and garlic toast will be a part of the menu as will the roasters of chili made by local residents. “People will either donate the ingredients or they will ask for someone, a group, a business, to sponsor them,” Like said, adding, “If someone wants to make the chili and doesn’t feel like they can handle the entire cost we will certainly help them find funding. There will be anywhere from six to 10 cooks making their chili and hoping it will be named the number one at the conclusion of the night.
When tragedy strikes, many in the community want to help but don’t know how. That’s when the Lion’s come into play. “We believe in trying to do something good for our neighbors,” Like said.
