Cutting carbon dioxide emissions by over 14,000 pounds — that’s the equivalent of planting 367 trees or enough power to illuminate 28,500 light bulbs for one day.
That is what has been done at the home of Mark and Julie Versteeg on the shores of East Graham Lake. On September 15, 2015, they “flipped the switch” on the solar power array located on top the hog house on the property. Since that time, in exactly nine months, the couple has produced 9.42 megawatts of electricity with their 10kW (kilowatt) system.
“That’s a megawatt a month,” Mark pointed out. And that despite the winter, which may not have been as sunny. “We do have good production, even in the winter months,” he added. “Right now, we’re producing more than we are using.”
