The Murray County Historical Society, in cooperation with the Slayton Cemetery Association, will host two workshop sessions on the best techniques for cleaning headstones and how to raise and repair a headstone.
The first session on cleaning will begin at the Murray County 4-H building on the fairgrounds at 9:00 a.m. on Wed. October 11. After a one hour training session, participants will then move to the Slayton Cemetery north of town on Highway 59 to practice their skills.
At 1:00 p.m., the second session will begin at the cemetery with a demonstration and discussion on how to raise and repair broken headstones. Lunch is on your own.
These workshops are provided by the Northern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching the hands-on skills of preservation trades to young adults. Join us for one or both of the sessions.
There will be no charge for these sessions but we ask a free will donation to help defray costs. Spaces for each are limited to 15 participants, so please contact us as soon as possible. To register call 507-836-6533, if no answer call 507-626-0968 or e-mail: jtimmerman@co.murray.mn.us
