Heger Family celebrates heritage with reunion

More than seventy people joined together for the Heger Family Reunion on Sunday, August 4th, at the home of Loren and Lana Heger, Dundee.

The reunion was the first in fifteen years for the family. People from Hawaii, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma, Colorado, Illinois, and, of course, Minnesota, were in attendance  at the event. All of the people who attended are descendents of Loren Heger’s grandparents, Columbus and Amelia (Fried), who on July 5, 1886, purchased farmland in Section 10, Southbrook Township, Cottonwood County for $300.00 per acre.

Amelia sold the farm to son, John, and his wife, Mary, during 1918. Columbus had passed away in 1899 from a farm injury. Once the farm was sold to John, Amelia moved into Heron Lake.

Loren, and his wife, Lana, purchased the farm in 1970 and have lived on the land that his grandparents purchased since then.

“It is just very fitting that the Heger Family Reunion should be held on the farm where this family was started,” Lana Heger stated.
