Hermeling scores 12 points for HL-O/Fulda

Shooting the ball well early and often, the Adrian/Ellsworth Dragons raced to a 42-12 lead at halftime and earned a 70-23 victory over the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes in a Red Rock Conference high school girls’ basketball game on Friday, December 20 in Ellsworth.

Adrian/Ellsworth — a new cooperative program that began play this season — had 11 players score and made a total of 24 field goals inside the arc to go along with six 3-pointers and four free throws.

“The Dragons came out shooting the lights out, and we just weren’t quick enough on our closeouts and rotations to cover their shooters,” Coyotes head coach Andy Oakland said. “Offensively, we were never able to find a rhythm and had too many stretches with negative possessions that either ended in turnovers or missed shots.”

The Coyotes got to the free-throw line well as a team, but only made 6-of-19 attempts from the foul line. HL-O/F made three 3-pointers and four two-point field goals.

Chrissy Hermeling scored 12 points and came up with two steals to lead the Coyotes. Khloe Gehl had five points and four rebounds.
