Competing on a beautiful spring day at Pipestone last Tuesday (May 1), the trio of Matthias Kunerth, Zach Thier and Gabe Spittle scored 13 points each to lead the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda track and field boys at the Bob Nangle Arrow Relays.
Kunerth, a senior, earned an individual third in the high jump (5-4) and a fifth in the triple jump (35-10), while also running key legs on two placing Coyote relay teams.
Kunerth ran a stellar 2:11 opening leg on HLOF’s second-place 4×800-meter relay team, which clocked a season-best time of 9:21.59. Completing the silver-medal performance for the Coyotes were junior Carlos Juarez (2:16), senior Leighton Gehl and junior Christian Juarez.
Thier, just a freshman, established a pair of varsity PRs (personal records) as he uncorked a distance of 40 feet, one inch in the shot put and whirled the discus an even 115 feet, placing third in both events.
