With a definitive recipe to follow, Fulda Elementary School pre-school students, both morning and afternoon sessions, made vegetable stew on Tuesday.
Teachers Alice Spartz and Sara Zins, along with helpers Ann Woelber and Dean Van Oort, aided the preschool students as they made their stew.
Once the activity was ready to begin, the pre-schoolers had several rules to follow:
1) Roll your long sleeves up as high as you can get them,
2) No playing with your hair. It has germs that we do not want in the stew.
3) Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
4) If you need to cough, you turn your back to the vegetables in front of you.
5) Be care with the knives. Even though they are plastic, if you use them improperly, you could get cut.
As the pre-schoolers gathered around a table set at their height, Mrs. Spartz held up “The Recipe”. Reading carefully, she said, “The recipe says that the children in the class bring the vegetables for the soup, which you have done. It also says that you must cut the vegetables into bite-sized pieces. So, let’s pick up the knives next to the vegetables in front of you and start cutting them into pieces. How many of you help cook at home?”
