Ice fishing contest brings in nearly 450 fishers

A beautiful day greeted anglers at the annual Heron Lake Young Men’s Club Ice Fishing Tournament on Saturday, February 15. The event was held on West Graham Lake. Despite the wind and cold of the previous few days, anglers were out in full force to enjoy Saturday’s activities.

Nearly 450 anglers registered for the tournament, the 13th annual event for the Young Men’s Club. The tournament and related raffle are the main fund-raisers for the group, along with their annual bullhead feed in Okabena.

The Young Men’s Club hopes everyone will make plans to attend next year’s tournament, or purchase a raffle ticket. Whether you attend the tourney, buy a ticket or have a meal at the bullhead feed, you are supporting the youngsters of the area with your donations. “We couldn’t do it without all of them,” the Young Men’s Club members stressed.

Funds raised from the tournament, raffle and bullhead feed are donated, mainly for youth oriented purposes. Nearly $20,000 has been donated in the past two years, and the YMC thanks all the anglers, tickets buyers and bullhead feed attendees for their support, along with the businesses that help support their tournament.
