After four years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps and four years of college at Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Gregg Slaathaug accepted a social studies teaching position in Fulda and also signed on as the junior high girls’ basketball coach.
That was in the summer of 1999.
Now, nearly 18 years later, Slaathaug is finishing up his 16th season as the varsity girls’ basketball coach and has also become the Raiders’ activities director and the high school principal.

Prior to that, the Raiders made back-to-back state tournament trips in his first two seasons, finishing fourth in 2002 and third in 2003.
