In memory of Arnold Enninga

1928-ARNOLD ENNINGA-2017

Arnold (Jim) Hiram Enninga, the son of Fred and Alma Enninga was born, at home on the family farm June 29, 1928 in rural Fulda MN just south of Wirock. Arnold Married Harriet Bakker in 1949 at Pfingsten church. He worked the family farm and his own farm for a short time before moving to Minneapolis in 1961, then moving to Brooklyn Center in 1964. He became a Welder at Despatch Ovens Company, building ovens that were used for Drying & Heat treating, some ovens that were large enough to dry the paint on 50 foot long airplane wings. And 70 foot long heat tunnels to dry the paint on cans after being printed on. After 31 years he retired. And moved from their home in Brooklyn Center, to Big Lake MN, on Ann Lake in 1998, where he enjoying boating and fishing.

He enjoyed life, being a great story teller, with a long memory, he could tell you his experiences from way back to when he was 5 years old. He had a lot of stories to tell of Fulda, times before the first theater where the movies were shown on the back of a building, playing at the pool hall, he set pins in the bowling alley by hand, He was even the first person to try out (Get locked into) the new jail there just for fun because he was the friend of the Sherriff.  If you wanted to know something about the area, the people, the culture, how life was back then, he could tell you. He had a wealth of information; he had even been on the Fulda face book website and made some comments.

He was an Entertainer, a self taught accordion player, that only played by ear. He played for a few wedding dances. He even was invited by Harold Loeffelmacher, to join the six fat Dutchman band and go on the road with them; a band that eventually went on to play on the Lawrence Welk show. Family was more important to him, so he stayed in Fulda.

Arnold/Jim had many interests. He loved to read books, especially westerns. He liked to hunt and fish around Fulda and MN. He enjoyed wood working, designing and building 21 decorative shelves for the kids and grandchildren, some with up to 100 cuts in them.  He also enjoyed a good game of pool. Survivors include his wife Harriet Enninga, and sons David (Cheryl) of Brooklyn Center, Duane of Brooklyn Center, Daryl (Pam) of Rogers, MN, Doran Enninga of Brooklyn Center.
