In memory of Darlene Meyer

Darlene Meyer was born on November 22, 1929 in Ruthton, Minnesota to Henry and Verna Lundeen Lange.  The family later moved to a farm east of Avoca, Minnesota.  Darlene graduated from Slayton High School in 1948.  Following high school Darlene worked at the Slayton Grocery Store.  On September 30, 1952 she and John Meyer were married in Slayton, Minnesota.  Following their marriage they made their home on a farm south of Slayton.  Darlene was the secretary for the N.F.O. Livestock Buying Station in Iona, Minnesota for many years. Darlene and John both enjoyed snowmobiling and were members of the Slayton Drift Breakers Club and also spent many years as instructors for snowmobile safety.  In 2005 they moved to Slayton and built a new home.  Darlene passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the age of 89.  She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton where she was a member of the Quilting Group.  She also was a member of the Slayton Legion Axillary Post #64 and served as Chaplin.  Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family especially her great-grandchildren, cooking, canning, knitting, playing cards and having coffee with friends.

Survivors include her husband John Meyer, Slayton, MN; three children and their spouses: Larry and Deb Meyer, Slayton, MN, Luann and Mike Mart, Estherville, IA, and Doreen and Jim Swensen, Bismarck, ND; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three siblings: Dale and Judy Lange, Slayton, MN, James and Joyce Lange, Slayton, MN, and Janice and Mick Sellman, Montevideo, MN and several nieces and nephews and their families.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Milen Lange and his wife Donna.

Memorial services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dale Degner officiating.  The organist was Brenda Whitehead with special music by Heidi Winter.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens Slayton, MN.
