In memory of Elden Gehl

1939-ELDEN GEHL-2019

Elden Lee Gehl, the son of Fred and Malinda (Breit) Gehl, was born on January 17, 1939 on a farm near Kinbrae, MN. He grew up on the farm and attended country school, parochial school and the Fulda High School, graduating in 1957. In 1958 he enlisted into the Army Reserves and served until honorable discharge in 1964. Elden was united in marriage to Elaine Rueter on March 6, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, IA. After their marriage they lived on the Gehl Family farm, which became a century farm. He worked at Cynamid Fertilizer Plant, Behr Enterprises and Ramerth Ag Service over the years while he farmed. Elden passed away on Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN at the age of 80. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Elden served on his Township Board and the Maple Lawn Nursing Home Board. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Gehl of Fulda, MN; children, Susan (Kevin) Schweigert of Fulda, MN, Curtis (Cindy) Gehl of Windom, MN, Clayton (Faye) Gehl of Fulda, MN, Teresa (Dan) Halbur of Alexandria, MN and Darwin (Ann) Gehl of Harrisburg, SD; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and siblings, Marlene Dankers of Red Wing, MN. Leslie Gehl of Hastings, MN, Deanne Kochaver of Boise, ID, Patricia Von Bargen of Little Canada, MN, Robert (Patricia) Gehl of New Ulm, MN, Elizabeth (Dan) Knaack of Appleton, WI and Mary (Ken) Tennessen of Cannon Falls, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, niece, Dana Dankers and brother-in-law, Delbert Dankers.

Funeral Services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, on Monday, December 23, 2019 with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating.  The organist was Loretta Gehl. The pallbearers were Justin Gehl, Benjamin Gehl, Keith Gehl, Jonathan Gehl, Samuel Gehl, Tyler Ackerman and Geno Gehl. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.
