In memory of Floyd Larson

1924-FLOYD LARSON-2017

Floyd Everette Larson was born on September 10, 1924 in Slayton, Minnesota to James and Lena Aleckson Larson.  He grew up on the family farm south of Balaton, MN and attended Balaton High School.   On July 16, 1948 he and Joyce Holm were married at the Slayton Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN.  Following their marriage they farmed the Larson family farm and raised their two children.  While farming Floyd also sold McNess products for 11 years.  Then in 1963 Floyd started Floyd Larson Septic Services and operated it until selling the business to his son, Glenn.  Joyce passed away on June 4, 1997.  Floyd remained on the farm until his mid 80’s when he moved to Boulder Estates in Marshall, MN.  In May 2013 Floyd became a resident of the Colonial Manor in Balaton, MN.  He passed away there on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the age of 93.  He was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Balaton, MN where he served in many aspects throughout the life of the church.  Following the closing of Zion Lutheran Church, Floyd became a member of Sillerud/Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton.  Floyd taught himself how to play the accordion.  He would later call himself, Larson’s One Man Polka Band and wrote several of his own tunes including the “Lutefisk Waltz” and the “Wild Hare Polka”.  Floyd is best known for playing the accordion at church, nursing homes, benefits, parades, Prime Club events, and various community celebrations.  In 1989 Floyd received first place in an accordion contest in Gibbon, MN the Polka Capital of the World.

Survivors include his daughter, Loretta Aljoe and her husband, David of Bloomington, MN, one daughter-in-law, Karen Larson of Balaton, MN, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joyce, son, Glenn Larson on May 2, 2016, great-grandson, Aidan Whitmore on December 27, 2002 and brother, Harold Larson on June 11, 2006.

Funeral Services at Victory Christian Church in Balaton, MN on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mike Nelson officiating.  The pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Interment is at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Balaton, MN.
