In memory of Joel Ide

1966-Joel Ide-2018

Joel David Ide, 52 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, Minnesota.

Joel was born on May 17, 1966 in Buffalo Center, Iowa to David and Leone (Weckwerth) Ide.  He graduated from Austin Christian Academy in 1984, attended the Austin Community College and graduated from Mankato State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Joel met the love of his life and married Brenda DeGolier on June 27, 1987 at Church of the Open Bible in Austin.

He began his career as a Cost Accountant with MICO, Inc. in Mankato; and in 1988, he returned to Austin and started working at Accentra Credit Union where he ultimately became Sr. Accountant.  In 2016, he began working at the Fulda Area Credit Union where he remained until his death.

His life was spent serving others. He was a faithful member of the Living Bible Church where he was involved working and leading wherever he could.  Joel was instrumental in starting a missions project in Piedras Negras, Mexico where he joyfully went to serve every two years for over a decade. He not only served his church, he immersed himself into the community, serving on the Fulda Heritage Society, and the Fulda Community Club. His booming voice was a great asset to the Fulda Community Players. A devoted family man, Joel was always at their events. Wherever Joel saw a need, he was faithful to fill it.

Joel was not tall; but he was supportive, generous, devoted, friendly, caring, loud, laughing, and talkative, and stood grander than his height.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Frederick Ide, and his grandparents.

Joel is survived by his wife, Brenda Ide, Austin, Minnesota; daughter, Marissa Ide and fiancé Kyle Linnett, Austin, Minnesota; son, David Ide, Austin, Minnesota; mother, Leone Svelmoe, Albert Lea, MN; brother, George (Terry) Ide, Owatonna, Minnesota; sister, Tami (Rick Maher) Ide, Monticello, Minnesota; his favorite mother-in-law, Donna DeGolier, Austin, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 13th at Cornerstone Church 1403 1st Avenue SW, Austin with the Reverend Paul Juntunen officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
