1922-NORDICE NELSON-2016
Nordice Marie Nelson was born September 20, 1922 at the family home in Avoca, Minnesota to Carl Henry and Marie Bjorklund Hanson. She grew up in Avoca and attended Avoca School and Slayton High School. She worked in the Avoca Meat Locker. On December 21, 1950 she and George Nelson were married in Avoca. Together they farmed the Nelson homestead in Graham Lake Township, near Kinbrae, MN. George passed away on September 25, 1985. Nordice continued to live on the farm until, due to health reasons she moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton. She enjoyed her stay there and after a fall resulting in a surgery for repair of a broken wrist, she moved to Maple Lawn Nursing Home in November 2012. Nordice passed away there on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of 93. Nordice is the last of the Hanson siblings. She was a past member of First Lutheran Church in Dundee and a current member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Nordice was an avid reader and loved to keep up on current events. She loved fine chocolates and Starbrite mints!
Survivors are nieces and nephews, Mark (Donna) Hanson, Caren (Dan) Voss, Lisa (Pat) Kremer, Kevin (Kim) Heim, Paul (Carla) Hanson, Laura Hanson, Kyle Heim, Larry (Mary) Pederson, Doug (Rosie) Roszell, Gary (Hope) Roszell, Dan Pederson, Kent (Debbie) Sogge. Nordice is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five siblings; Carl, Connie, John, Richard, and Ruth.
A graveside service will be on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Dundee Lutheran Cemetery in Dundee, MN at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating.
