Pat Nelson was born on October 29, 1931 on the family farm near Balaton, Minnesota to Elmer and Ida Bowersock Moat. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Balaton High School in 1949. Following high school Pat worked at the Tyler Hospital. On June 22, 1951 she and Warren Nelson were married at her parents farm. Following their marriage they farmed in Ellsborough Township and raised their three children. In 1988 they moved to Slayton, Minnesota where Pat worked in home health care. Warren passed away on August 13, 2008. Pat remained in their home until 2013 when she moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton. In July 2016 Pat became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, Minnesota where she passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the age of 85. She was a member of Sillerud Lutheran Church in rural Balaton, Minnesota where she was active in the ladies aid. Pat enjoyed spending time with family, flowers, visiting with friends and the occasional trip to the casino.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses: Judy and Bruce Gelleerman, Queen Creek, AZ, Jeff and Lynn Nelson, Fulda, MN, and Jerry and Chris Nelson, Balaton, MN; and two grandsons: Justin Nelson and Cody and Karissa Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Warren; sister Norma Jean Towne and her husband Glenn and brother Quintin “Bud” Moat.
Memorial services were held at Sillerud Lutheran Church in rural Balaton, MN on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Daryl Thul officiating. The organist was Donna Swan. Interment is at Sillerud Lutheran Cemetery, rural Balaton, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton was entrusted with arrangements. To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com.
