In memory of Ursula Kellen

1916-URSULA KELLEN-2018

Ursula Mary Kellen was born on May 6, 1916 in Iona, Minnesota to William and Anna Stallman Rolfes.  She grew up in Iona and attended St. Columba School.  On September 12, 1934 she and Theodore (Ted) Kellen were married at St. Columba Church in Iona.  Following their marriage they farmed the Kellen family farm near Badger Lake before moving to a farm west of Iona where they raised their three children. They retired and moved to Iona in 1977. Ted passed away on December 18, 1985. Ursula remained in her home until 2012 when she moved to the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Slayton. Ursula passed away there on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the age of 101. She was a life long member of St. Columba Church in Iona where she was active in the Catholic Daughter’s of America and the CCW.  Ursula also was a member of the Iona Senior Center.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, coffee with friends, doing crafts, playing cards and quilting.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Leon and Mary Kellen of Minnetonka, MN, Camy Benson of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Mayreen and Nick Muller of San Diego, CA, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, one sister, Leona Edwards of Federal Way, WA and two sisters-in-law, Darlette Rolfes and Jeanette Rolfes both of Slayton, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ted, three infant sons, grandson, Brett Benson, five brothers, Cornelius, Francis, Herbert, William, and Eugene Rolfes, and two sisters, Marcelline Prestin, and Leonilla Rolfes.

Funeral Services at St. Columba Church in Iona, MN on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.  The organist is Judy Andrews.  The song leader is Sheila Crowley.  The pallbearers are Justin Humason, Maura Humason, Leah Kellen, Mike Benson, Nicholas Caldwell and Brett Benson.  Interment is at St. Columba Cemetery in Iona, MN.  Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Church.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. Columba Church from 4-6 p.m. with a CDA Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
