In Memory of Vernon Pals

1939-VERNON PALS-2018

Vernon J. Pals, 78, of Springfield, Illinois, died at 4:50 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center.

Vern was born March 10, 1939 in George, IA, the son of Vernon C. and Nellie R. Timmerman Pals. He married Nancy Schuety on September 4, 1965 in Brainerd, MN.

Vern graduated from the University of Minnesota. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces Defender. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel in 1998 after 27 years of service. He served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive 1968-1969. Vern distinguished himself by earning the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Riverton; sons, Gregory Pals of Chesterfield, MO, Jason (Kerri) Pals of Riverton, IL; and daughter, Kristina (Paul) Moser of Williamsville, IL; six grandchildren; Addison, Kaileigh, Nate, Hunter, Owen, and Eli and siblings; Donald (Vicki) Pals, Neila (Bruce) Nelson, Lloyd (Gayleen) Pals, Lee (Joselyn) Pals, Phyllis (Ed) Habermann, Alan (Kathy) Pals, and Ilene (Brian) Kanne.

Private family burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
